Eugenio Chacarra moved two shots clear at 14 under after 11 holes of his third round at the DP World India Championship, with play then halted because of darkness in a weather-hit event.
That leaves the championship scores still very much live, with the leaderboard set to shift again when round three resumes. Chacarra had started the day one shot clear after 36 holes, but he stretched that advantage by birdieing four of his opening seven holes.
McIlroy still in the hunt
Rory McIlroy was the biggest name trying to chase Chacarra down, but his round became far more difficult after a bogey-free second-round 68 earlier in the day. By the time play was stopped, McIlroy had dropped four shots in as many holes from the third and later added back-to-back bogeys on the ninth and 10th.
He completed 15 holes at four under, leaving him well adrift of the lead but still with enough golf to reshape the picture when the round resumes. In a field where momentum can change quickly, that matters.
A leaderboard with plenty left in it
The wider context is just as important. Chacarra is hunting his third win of the season, and this performance has put him in a strong position at exactly the right time. But with the weather-hit tournament not yet through round three, the pressure is not only on the players at the top of the board.
The leaderboard also has implications for the Race to Dubai, so every birdie and bogey matters beyond this week alone. For now, Chacarra holds the edge, McIlroy remains in pursuit, and the championship scores will only become clearer once the delayed round is completed.
