Colchester and Exeter left the JobServe Community Stadium with a point each after an entertaining 0-0 draw that felt more open than the scoreline suggested. The match had clear chances at both ends, a disallowed goal, and one effort that came back off the underside of the crossbar, but neither side could find the finish to turn pressure into three points.

An even first half, then Colchester pushed on

The first half was balanced, even if the moments of danger kept arriving. Josh Gordon forced Thimothee Lo-Tutala into an early save, and before the interval Bradley Ihionvien thought he had broken the deadlock when he headed in Oscar Thorn's cross, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Lo-Tutala also had to deal with Charlie Cummins' deflected shot, while Thorn saw another deflected effort drift just past the far post.

After the break, Colchester had the stronger spell and came closest to winning it. In the 55th minute, Jack Tucker's strike rattled the underside of the crossbar after Moses Sesay had sent a shot towards goal, a moment that summed up how fine the margins were. Exeter still carried a threat, though, as Oscar Thorn sent a volley over before Jack Bycroft pushed away a low Bradley Ihionvien effort.

Chances, saves and frustration

For Colchester, Thimothee Lo-Tutala was one of the key figures of the evening. He kept out Gordon's early strike and later collected Cummins' deflected shot, helping ensure the U's stayed level during Exeter's best moments. At the other end, Bycroft's intervention to deny Ihionvien kept Exeter in the game when Colchester were pressing hardest.

The result leaves both sides with a single point from a match that offered enough quality to produce a winner, but not enough composure in the decisive moment. Colchester and Exeter may feel they each had openings to take more from it, yet the standings reflect a contest where the balance of play and the final scoreline never quite matched up.
