Delta Goodrem will miss Strictly Come Dancing tonight after a rib injury ruled her out of Icons Week. The change leaves Delta and Kai out of this weekend’s dance and hands them a bye through to next week.
Icons Week at 6.15pm
Icons Week kicks off on iPlayer and One from 6.15pm on Saturday 17 October, with the remaining couples taking on routines inspired by some of the best-loved recording artists in history. Goodrem will not be part of that lineup after doctors advised her to rest.
Delta and Kai bye through
A Strictly spokesperson said: “Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing. In line with the rules of the show, Delta and Kai will receive a bye through to next week when it is hoped they will be able to dance again. We wish Delta the very best as she continues her recovery.”
Goodrem said the setback is “heartbreaking” after she had been “loving every second of this experience.” She added that she will focus on “resting and recovering” and hopes she will be “back on that dancefloor very soon.” That leaves this weekend’s show with one less couple in the competition and gives her recovery room before the next round.
Recovery before next week
The practical outcome is simple: Goodrem is out for this weekend, but not out of the competition. The bye keeps Delta and Kai moving forward under the show’s rules, and the decision now rests on whether her recovery is quick enough for a return next week.
