A motorcyclist died after a crash caused M27 closures near Fareham, with the eastbound carriageway shut for most of the day before reopening shortly after 20:40 BST. Hampshire police said the crash involved a white Triumph motorcycle and happened shortly before 06:40 BST.
The man, who was in his 60s, died at the scene. Police asked witnesses and any drivers with dash cam footage to get in touch as they investigated the collision.
Whiteley to Portsmouth
The closure ran eastbound between Whiteley at junction 9 and junction 12 for Portsmouth, with the first restriction reported from junction 11 at Fareham. The westbound carriageway stayed open, so the disruption affected one direction rather than the whole motorway.
That meant traffic moving east had no through route for much of the day while westbound flow continued. The reopened carriageway restored the route after the long closure, but police still wanted information from people who saw the crash or drove past with recording equipment running.
Hampshire police appeal
Hampshire police linked the appeal directly to the fatal collision, asking for witnesses and any dash cam footage that might show the moments before the motorcycle crash. The call gives drivers who passed through the area a clear next step: check whether they recorded anything relevant and contact police.
The open question is what caused the crash involving the white Triumph motorcycle. Police have said the man died at the scene, the motorway later reopened, and the investigation now depends on what witnesses and recorded footage can add to the timeline.
