Málaga host Real Sociedad on Sunday 18 October in LaLiga’s jornada 9, with the home side looking to get back to winning ways in front of their supporters. The visitors arrive with momentum after a 3-2 victory over Deportivo La Coruña, while Málaga are trying to respond after a run that has brought one draw and two defeats.
That contrast in recent form gives the match a clear edge before a ball is kicked. Málaga will see this as a chance to steady themselves at La Rosaleda, while Real Sociedad will believe their result before Sunday has given them a stronger platform heading into a tricky away fixture. Form sets the tone
Before Sunday 18 October, Málaga drew 1-1 against Espanyol, but the bigger picture is that they have only managed one draw in their recent matches and have also suffered two defeats. That makes this a match where the result matters as much as the performance, especially with home support behind them.
Real Sociedad, by contrast, come into the game after beating Deportivo La Coruña 3-2. It is not a huge sample, but it is enough to give the txuri-urdin a more positive feel before they travel to La Rosaleda for this LaLiga clash.
What Sunday means for both sides
For Málaga, the priority is straightforward: turn a difficult spell into a response in front of their own fans. For Real Sociedad, the challenge is to build on that win and show that their recent momentum can carry over into another league test.
It is also a useful early-season marker for both teams. With three commitments already shaping their immediate rhythm, the outcome on 18 October will tell us whether Málaga can halt the slide or whether Real Sociedad can keep their improved form moving in the right direction.
