Scott Hanson has been the face of NFL RedZone since the show launched in 2009, but he is making one thing clear about his future: he is not locked in forever.
Hanson told Outkick’s Bobby Burack this week that he is “not married” to NFL RedZone and could go somewhere else after his current deal ends. He is currently in the second year of a four-year deal, which means the long-running host is under contract now, even if he is not treating the job like a lifelong arrangement.
A familiar TV staple with an uncertain long-term future
For NFL fans, Hanson and RedZone have been tied together for years. He began hosting the show in its inaugural season in 2009, and his presence has become one of the most recognizable parts of Sunday afternoons during the NFL season.
That is why his comments matter. Hanson said he loves the job and gives everything he has to RedZone, while also emphasizing that the NFL has been good to him and that he hopes he has been good for the league. At the same time, he added that he is not married to it and said, “Could I go somewhere else? Sure.”
Hanson also said there was a period when he was not sure the RedZone job would continue. In July 2025, he told Jimmy Traina on the SI Media Podcast that he had wondered whether it was going to happen, and he described the talks as difficult. He said the NFL can be a tough negotiator and called the process a “knockdown drag-out negotiation,” though he was also clear that he was thrilled to be back once an agreement was reached.
Why the situation is worth watching
There had also been reporting that negotiations had stalled and that NBC was courting him. That is notable because Hanson has worked for NBC on GoldZone during the 2024 Summer Olympics and 2026 Winter Olympics, giving him another high-profile connection outside NFL Network.
For now, Hanson remains the voice of RedZone and is under contract for the time being. But his latest comments leave open the possibility that the NFL viewing staple could eventually look different if his current deal is the last one he signs.
