Portland Thorns Vs Bay Fc: Bay FC Hosts Portland Thorns FC on Sunday at PayPal Park

Bay FC returns to action on Sunday with a home match against Portland Thorns FC at PayPal Park, a meeting that arrives with only three weeks left in the 2026 regular season and meaningful points still on the line for both clubs.

The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT on Oct. 18, 2026, and it will be Bay FC’s first home match in three weeks. Bay FC is coming out of the October international break with three games left in its season, while Portland enters the matchup trying to hold its place in a crowded playoff race.

What Bay FC wants to fix

Head coach Emma Coates said the focus is on returning to Bay FC’s identity and raising the standard in the final stretch. She said the club wants to go back to how it wants to play, make sure it levels up the areas it has been discussing, and finish the season as strongly as possible.

Coates also pointed to Portland’s attack as a major challenge. She said the Thorns have dynamic players across the front four, and Bay FC will need to do its jobs well to neutralize that threat. For Bay FC, that makes the game about discipline, structure and execution as much as it does about energy in front of a home crowd.

Coates added that the team is looking to end its season on the front foot, play exciting football, be hard to beat and be the best version of itself. She also said the club is excited to get back in front of its home fans at PayPal Park, noting the atmosphere they bring.

Portland’s playoff pressure

Portland’s urgency is easy to understand. The Thorns are in a tight playoff race, with six teams separated by just six points from fourth to ninth. That kind of margin leaves little room for error, especially with the standings still shifting this late in the year.

Portland will also be without Sophia Wilson, who was sent off in the Oct. 3 match vs. Boston and is suspended for the next two matches. That removes one of Portland’s key attacking options at a time when every result matters.

For Bay FC, the matchup is about more than simply interrupting a rival’s run. It is also a chance to build momentum, continue shaping its identity and get points on the board in the final three games. Maddie Moreau said the main priority is to reconnect after the break, win, and enjoy the soccer while the team builds toward next season.

That balance gives Sunday’s game a clear edge: Bay FC wants to level up at home, while Portland needs points to protect its position. With both teams chasing important late-season goals, the match at PayPal Park should carry real significance from the opening whistle.
