Vicky Myers says Carla Connor and Lisa are back on steadier ground, with the pair now in a really good place after last year's shenanigans. She also teased a Halloween tribute costume for Lisa, giving Coronation Street viewers a fresh clue about where the relationship sits heading into the colder months.
“As far as their relationship's concerned... and also as a family unit with Ryan, they're in a really good place,” Myers said. “And I think after last year's shenanigans, this is good, this is fine, you know?” That is the clearest signal yet that the show is keeping the couple settled rather than dragging them straight back into another round of crisis.
Halloween and the tribute costume
“Just wait until you see them! I can't really say too much about it, but I was having a chat with makeup, and I'd already suggested the costume and who Lisa should go as,” Myers said. The detail matters because it points to a planned Halloween look rather than a throwaway wardrobe beat, and it gives the costume scene a specific off-screen setup before the cameras rolled.
Myers said the tribute is to an icon who passed away during filming: “And then this person passed away the week that we were shooting it, and I couldn't believe it, because this person's a bit of an icon. I just love this person. So to do that, it is a great homage to this person.” That turns the costume into a memorial gesture inside a soap storyline, not just a seasonal flourish.
Coronation Street and 20 years
Myers also drew a line between the couple's calm patch and the way the show is using them. “It's important because we get to see them in their own professions and as individuals rather than as a unit,” she said. “I think it's really important that we can show these women in their own way, in their own right.”
That approach gives the writing room room to breathe. Lisa came in as a Detective Sergeant, Carla has been a staple and an icon of the show for 20 years, and the pairing works best when both characters keep their own edges instead of being written as one permanent domestic block. The recent viewer chatter about the missing Swarla scenes only makes that balance more noticeable, because the show has to hold the relationship together while still giving each woman a separate track.
Christmas and the next beat
The immediate takeaway is simple: the drama has cooled, and it is staying that way for now. Myers has framed Halloween as a moment that can be playful rather than chaotic, and the same settled run is expected to carry through Christmas, which should keep the focus on character work rather than fresh upheaval.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 or can be streamed from 7am on ITVX, so the next clue will land in the show itself. For Carla Connor, the real story now is not another split or crisis but whether the Halloween tribute reveal pays off the way Myers has set it up.
