Trabzonspor and Beşiktaş will meet today for the 144th time, adding another major chapter to one of Turkish football’s most recognizable rivalries. It is also a meeting that matters in the standings, with Trabzonspor in 5th place on 13 points and Beşiktaş in 4th place on 15 points.
The balance of the fixture has been tight over the years. In 143 previous matches, Trabzonspor have 57 wins, Beşiktaş have 49 wins, and 37 games have finished level. That history gives this matchup extra weight, especially with both teams sitting among the top four in the league table described in this article.
Big wins already this season
Both clubs have already delivered standout results against the league’s biggest names this season. Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 4-0 at home, while Beşiktaş earned a 2-1 away win over Fenerbahçe. Those results are part of why this Karadeniz clash carries so much attention: both sides have already shown they can win in difficult environments.
Trabzonspor also arrive with a timely confidence boost from Hyeon-gyu Oh, who produced 2 goals and 1 assist in the midweek Europa League match against Hoffenheim. That kind of attacking output can change the feel of a high-profile league match, even when the broader team picture remains unsettled.
What to watch
The biggest question now is how the absences affect both teams’ strength on the day. The matchup is being shaped not only by standings and history, but also by the players unavailable to each side. In a game between two top-four teams, those omissions can matter as much as form or momentum.
Still, the fixture brings together two clubs that have already shown high-end quality this season. With the 144th meeting now underway, Trabzonspor vs Beşiktaş has the ingredients of another important test in the race near the top of the table.
