Christian McCaffrey wife Olivia Culpo is recovering in L.A. after the couple welcomed baby number 2 on Sept. 29. McCaffrey says his sleep is great, a rare calm note just weeks after Roman Augustus McCaffrey arrived.
McCaffrey’s locker-room update
The 49ers star was asked about his nighttime routine ahead of the game against the Washington Commanders, and he did not soften the answer. “Sleep's great! My family's down in L.A. right now while my wife's recovering,” he said, adding, “Don't tell her this, I'm sleeping fantastic.”
That line gives the clearest snapshot yet of the household split: Olivia Culpo remains in L.A. while he is back on football time in San Francisco. The setup leaves the newborn care load and recovery period concentrated on one coast, with McCaffrey checking in from the other.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, Christian McCaffrey and Olivia Culpo announced their son’s arrival in a joint Instagram post. Culpo captioned it, “Roman Augustus McCaffrey 🤍,” and the images showed the couple with their newborn and their 14-month-old daughter, Colette.
In the same post, one photo showed Culpo standing in a garden while holding Roman beside Colette, while another showed the family in the hospital. Culpo also wrote, “Heart is exploding,” in a now-expired Instagram Stories post, which fits the scale of the moment better than any polished announcement ever could.
The couple had already set this sequence in motion in May, when Culpo posted, “Best birthday gift ❤️ Baby #2 coming soon 🥹” on her 34th birthday. That earlier post turned the pregnancy into a public countdown, and the birth on Sept. 29 closed that loop with a second child and a clearer picture of the family’s routine.
San Francisco area return
McCaffrey said Culpo is “coming back up soon” to the San Francisco area, which gives the family a short bridge between recovery in L.A. and normal home life again. Whether she makes his next game on Monday was not confirmed, and for now the most direct sign of the adjustment is still the one he volunteered himself: he is sleeping fantastic while she recovers.
