Lloyds Bank is moving Halifax customers to Lloyds Bank digital access, and the Halifax app and online banking will shut down completely on October 31. The account itself stays with Halifax, but anyone who logs in through the old digital channels will need to change how they reach it before November.
The shift leaves the account number, sort code, debit card, PIN, direct debits and standing orders unchanged. Lloyds Banking Group has issued invitations through the Halifax app and online portal, so the practical task for customers is not to open a new account but to move their online access to the Lloyds Bank app.
Lloyds Bank login issues have already shown how quickly access problems can become a customer headache, and this change adds a fixed deadline. If a Halifax customer already has a Lloyds Bank app or online banking profile, no further action is required, which keeps the switch simple for people already using the wider group’s digital system.
Halifax and Bank of Scotland
Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Bank operate under the same parent group, Lloyds Banking Group, so the move is a brand change for digital access rather than a transfer of the underlying account. That separation matters because the bank is changing the front door, not the account record behind it.
Customers with Lloyds login details from a business banking account can also use those details in the Lloyds personal app and online banking. Business accounts stay separate, so the message is narrow: the personal Halifax account is not being rewritten, but the digital route into it is being rerouted.
October 31 Halifax shutdown
October 31 is the hard stop for the Halifax app and online banking, and customers who have not switched by then lose the old digital access route. Before November, the move to the Lloyds Bank app becomes the only way to manage the account online through the new setup.
If the invitations have already appeared in the Halifax app and online portal, the remaining task is straightforward: complete the switch and keep using the same account details that already sit on file. The unresolved issue is how many Halifax customers still need to make that move before November.
