Social Security benefit dates 2026 will shift in November, with payments set for October 30, November 3, November 10, November 18 and November 25. The Social Security Administration is adjusting the month because Sunday and Veterans Day fall on dates that move some payments earlier than usual.

Nearly 72 million people nationwide receive monthly payments through the Social Security Administration. For Supplemental Security Income recipients, the November payment arrives on October 30 because November 1 falls on a Sunday, while some Social Security recipients get their money on November 10 one day early because Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11.

Social Security Administration November dates

The November 3 payment goes to people who began receiving benefits before May 1997 or who receive both Social Security and SSI. After that, the schedule splits by birthday: beneficiaries born from the 1st through the 10th are paid November 10, those with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th are paid November 18, and those born from the 21st through the 31st are paid November 25.

The staggered schedule follows the same rule structure the Social Security Administration uses across the year. Benefit timing depends on when a person started receiving payments and, for most recipients, the date of birth tied to the monthly schedule.

Tyler End on COLA

Tyler End, a certified financial planner and CEO and co-founder, said, "The 3.6 percent COLA raise can make a difference, but it's also a sign of how much prices have risen due to inflation over the past year." The Social Security Administration announced the 3.6 percent cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 on October 14.

The adjustment will affect approximately 76 million Americans receiving Social Security or SSI benefits. The average retired worker's monthly benefit is expected to rise by $75, from $2,095 to $2,170, while the average combined payment for couples will increase from $3,238 to $3,355.

CPI-W and benefit growth

The COLA is calculated using the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, or CPI-W. The Social Security Administration compares the average CPI-W for July, August and September with the average for the same three months in the previous year.

That calculation also lifts other payments: the average monthly payment for disabled workers is set to rise from $1,642 to $1,701, the maximum federal SSI payment for an individual from $994 to $1,029, and the maximum federal SSI payment for eligible couples from $1,491 to $1,544. AARP survey findings cited alongside the increase showed many older Americans believed a projected 3.5 percent increase would still not keep pace with higher prices.

For recipients watching November closely, the practical step is simple: use the payment date tied to the benefit type or birthday range, then plan around the earlier October 30 SSI payment and the one-day shift affecting November 10 checks.
