Molly Exits in Week 4: Who Left Bake Off Tonight

Who left Bake Off tonight came down to Molly, who left The Great British Bake Off in Week 4 after Bread Week turned against her. Tom was named Star Baker in the same episode, but the field still shrank again as the 17th series moved on without Molly and Nikki.

Bread Week on Channel 4

Tuesday’s episode on Channel 4 set three bread challenges in Week 4, including a signature garlic bread task and a showstopping bread display. The technical challenge was described as one of the most disastrous Technicals in Bake Off history, and that was the pressure cooker around which the episode narrowed to Molly’s exit.

The tent was back at Welford Park with Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond hosting, while Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson judged the bakes. In a series built around 12 bakers and 30 brand new challenges across 10 episodes, one bad Bread Week can end a run fast.

Molly’s exit line

Molly did not leave quietly. She said: “I knew it. I am sad to be leaving the tent, but I think it’s my time and it’s the right decision. I would feel guilty if I stayed longer than you guys. You have got more to prove. I really wanted to do biscuit week and bread week, and I got to bake with my husband in the tent. It’s been a really wonderful experience and I am really proud of myself. I have learned so much, thank you”

Hollywood added a blunt read on the result: “You don’t get in the tent unless you are a good baker, but I think Molly struggled a little bit with the texture in Bread Week.” Lawson was just as direct in praise, saying: “You have given us some beautiful bakes”

Nikki leaves the tent

Nikki also left the tent in Week 4 due to family reasons, and Alison Hammond stepped in to judge Nikki’s cheesy pesto tear and share garlic bread after Nikki went home. That leaves the episode with two separate departures, but only one standard elimination, which is the kind of production wrinkle that changes the shape of the contest without changing the scoring table.

Molly’s exit as the third baker to leave the 17th series is the cleaner takeaway for viewers tracking the competition, because the episode removed one contestant through judging and another through circumstances outside the bake. Bread Week did what it usually does in this show: it sorted the field quickly, and it left the rest of the bakers with fewer margins for error next time.
