The Dallas Stars come home with something to prove, and that is putting it politely. Tuesday’s Bruins vs Stars matchup opens a six-game homestand for a team that has looked far more convincing away from American Airlines Center than in it, and that early split is already the kind of awkward truth a contender cannot ignore for long.

Dallas enters this stretch at 1-2-0 at home, and that is not the record of a side that wants to make life comfortable for itself over the winter. The road numbers tell a much prettier story: 3-1-1 away from home, 26-11-4 overall, and 24-9-8 in the broader picture. That is why this homestand matters. If the Stars are going to turn a strong early foundation into something sturdier, they cannot keep making American Airlines Center feel like a place where the margins shrink and the pressure rises.

That is only part of the challenge. Boston arrives with David Pastrnak in form and with history on his side. His five-game point streak began against the Utah Mammoth on Oct. 8, he scored his 423rd career goal against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 16, and his career production against Dallas is the kind of detail opponents remember even if they pretend not to. Since Oct. 25, 2022, he has been on an eight-game point streak against the Stars, a run that is as irritating for Dallas as it is impressive for Boston.

The Bruins winger is doing plenty beyond the matchup history, too. He has 10 points, and his current season line also includes 12 points in nine games. That is the sort of output that can tilt a game quickly if the Stars get loose for even a few shifts. Dallas, meanwhile, just posted a 4-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night, a result powered by Arttu Hyry’s two goals. That was the good news. The less glamorous news is that one emphatic road win does not solve the larger home issue sitting right in front of them.

Glen Gulutzan sounded ready for the test, even if he was not exactly pretending to enjoy it. Asked Saturday in Chicago about returning home, he said, “No, I don’t look forward to it, not with this team.” That is a blunt line, but it also says plenty about the standard Dallas is chasing. A team with this much talent and this kind of record should not need to be talked into taking home ice seriously.

So the assignment is obvious. Start the homestand properly. Make the building a problem for Boston, not a stage for Pastrnak. If Dallas wants to look like more than a good road team with a decent overall record, Tuesday is the sort of night it has to handle with a little more authority and a lot less hesitation.
