Ian Puleston-Davies is back as Owen Armstrong after 11 years away from Coronation Street, with the character due to return to Weatherfield in January. The comeback lands as Gary Windass faces the fallout from recent imprisonment, and Owen is set to walk straight into the dispute over Izzy and Jake.
Filming on the return begins next week, giving the production a short runway before the January arrival. Puleston-Davies said: "I can't wait to pick up where I left off ten years ago! It’s brilliant to be back and to get stuck into a cracking storyline. Owen's back and he's still angry!"
April 2015 return point
Owen was last seen in April 2015, when his relationship with Anna Windass broke down and his business collapsed. After April 2015, he initially went to Portugal and ultimately started a new life in Scotland, which makes this return more than a routine reappearance; it resets a character who has been off screen long enough for the audience to need a firm re-entry point.
Kate Brooks said: "We're thrilled that Ian is back and Owen brings a ton of drama." She added: "As he joins forces with an unlikely alliance, he wreaks havoc on the Street, and his relationship with Gary is severely put to the test." That suggests the comeback is being written less as a nostalgic visit and more as a pressure test for the family fallout already in motion.
Gary Windass pressure point
Owen is still fiercely protective over his family, but he is also livid that Gary has caused so much chaos for Izzy and Jake. He is moving back to live with Izzy and Jake, while bitterly blaming Gary for the misfortunes that have piled up around them. The result is a return built on confrontation as much as family support.
For viewers, that means the January arrival is not just about seeing Owen again. It sets up a direct collision between protection and blame, with Gary in the middle and an "unlikely alliance" still left undefined on screen. In practice, that leaves the return pointed at one thing: trouble inside the family, not a quiet reset.
