Ten Kate leaves Yamaha after three World Championship titles — Ten Kate Yamaha Partnership Ending

Yamaha has confirmed that Ten Kate will no longer field its R9 in World Supersport next season, bringing an eight-season partnership to an end. The split closes a productive stretch that delivered three World Championship titles for Ten Kate under the Yamaha banner.

Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha Motor Europe’s division manager for motorsport, said Yamaha was disappointed to see Ten Kate choose a new direction for 2027, while also thanking Ronald and Gerrit Ten Kate and their team for their work over the past eight years.

A partnership that delivered titles

Ten Kate was already one of the most successful names in the category before the move to Yamaha in 2019. Between 2002 and 2014, the team won nine World Supersport titles with Honda's CBR600RR, and in 2007 it also won the WorldSBK title with Honda's CBR1000RR in the hands of James Toseland.

After moving to Yamaha with a sole entry in Superbike for Loris Baz in 2019, the team was left out of Honda's WorldSBK plans when the factory returned in 2020. Ten Kate then reset its focus on Supersport and quickly returned to winning ways, taking the championships with Dominique Aegerter in 2021 and 2022.

What changed this season

The latest chapter in the Yamaha partnership included another title in 2025, when Stefano Manzi won the first year of the YZF-R9 in Supersport. This year, however, the race at the front tightened again. The R9 won once more with AS Racing's Albert Arenas, while Ten Kate's Can Oncu finished fourth.

That result did not alter Ten Kate's standing as a leading force in the class, but it did come with a clear manufacturer shift for the future. Yamaha says Ten Kate will not field its R9 in World Supersport next season, and reports have indicated that QJ Motor will be the team's new manufacturer for 2027.

The move marks the end of a successful era for Yamaha and Ten Kate, one that added three World Championship titles to the team's already long record of success in the Supersport World Championship.
