Paul Hudson joined Insmed's Board of Directors effective immediately on Oct. 20, 2026, after Insmed appointed him and Utpal Koppikar as independent members. The addition gives Insmed two new directors at once, with Hudson bringing a long record in global biopharma leadership.
Hudson most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Sanofi S.A. from September 2019 through February 2026. He was CEO of Novartis Pharmaceuticals from 2016 to 2019, served on the Novartis Executive Committee, held senior operational and commercial leadership positions at AstraZeneca, and began his career in sales and marketing roles at Schering-Plough, GlaxoSmithKline UK and Sanofi-Synthélabo UK.
Will Lewis welcomes the additions
Will Lewis, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Insmed, said: "Paul and Utpal are exceptional additions to our Board, and I am delighted to welcome them to Insmed". Insmed said the two appointments add expertise in global biopharma leadership, commercial strategy and financial management to the Board.
Hudson said: "Insmed is a company I have admired for years — one that has built a remarkable track record of scientific innovation, clinical execution, and commercial prowess". He also said: "I am honored to join the Board at such an exciting inflection point for the Company."
Insmed and global growth
Insmed framed the appointments as support for its portfolio and global growth strategy. Hudson's career across the U.S., Japan and Europe fits that aim, giving the Board a director with experience across multiple healthcare markets and operating models.
The company did not spell out specific board assignments for Hudson or Koppikar in the announcement, so the immediate change is the composition of the Board itself. For now, the practical effect is a larger independent bench for oversight as Insmed advances its next phase.
What Hudson and Koppikar are expected to drive at Insmed is the open question the announcement leaves behind.
