Floyd Mayweather has left the door open for another Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor Mcgregor fight, saying on the PBD Podcast that he thinks he and Conor McGregor may “lock up again.” The former boxing champion did not frame it as a done deal, but he made clear that a rematch is at least on the table.
Mayweather and McGregor first fought nine years ago, when Mayweather won via technical knockout in Round 10. The bout was a massive commercial success, producing huge numbers at the box office and major paydays for both fighters. It also became Mayweather’s final professional fight.
Why the rematch talk matters
The idea of running it back still carries obvious appeal because the first meeting was so profitable and so widely watched. Mayweather suggested there is still unfinished business, while also making it clear that the business side would have to line up before anything happens.
“You mean the guy that took my whole swag and took it over there to the UFC?” Mayweather said, referring to McGregor’s crossover rise. He added, “Actually, I think me and Conor McGregor may lock up again.”
When asked about the possibility, Mayweather did not back away. “Yeah, absolutely,” he said. He also stressed that talk alone does not change anything, saying, “Talking doesn’t win fights” and “The fans can’t fight for you.”
Mayweather’s comments fit the same hard-edged tone he used after the first bout. “I don’t live with Conor McGregor, he’s not my friend,” he said. “It’s just when it’s time for us to do business and lock up, let’s do it.”
McGregor’s current situation
McGregor is still working through his own comeback path. This past July, he fought Max Holloway at UFC 329 and suffered a knee injury. The source also notes that McGregor has repeatedly said he plans to finish the final fight of his UFC contract in 2027 and then become a free agent.
That timeline matters because any future crossover would have to fit around McGregor’s UFC commitments. For now, Mayweather’s remarks do not guarantee a rematch, but they do revive interest in one of the biggest combat-sports events of the past decade.
