Stefan Dennis says Neighbours ending felt different after 2025 closure

Stefan Dennis said the 2025 ending of Neighbours felt very different from the soap's earlier cancellation because, this time, everyone had accepted that it was over. The actor, who played Paul Robinson, said the final goodbye in December 2025 came after 40 years on air and a two-year run on Amazon.

“It was a very different ending because we'd had such a big bang send off the previous one,” Dennis said. He added that the final run felt more settled because “it was a little more, 'okay, this is happening, we're all used to the fact that it's going to go down.'”

That is a sharper contrast with 2022, when he said the mood was, “What, it's ending? No, we can't, we've got to save it, somebody's going to save it.” The difference is practical as well as emotional: the first ending was treated like a rescue mission, while the 2025 closure had become a deadline everyone had already absorbed.

Paul Robinson and 40 years

Dennis, who has been linked with Neighbours' long-running identity through Paul Robinson, summed up his own stance on the end with a blunt line: “Yeah, that's it. It's had its day. Let's move on and remember it.” That is not a throwaway sentiment from a cast veteran; it signals acceptance after a rare 40-year run for a soap that had already been through one shutdown and revival cycle.

He also said, “So yeah, I think it'll stay with us forever. All of us that worked on it, it'll stay with us forever.” That matters because it frames the 2025 ending not as a scramble to preserve the show, but as a final handover to memory and archive, with classic episodes still available via Prime Video and YouTube.

December reunion plans

Dennis said the aftermath will include a major reunion, but he will miss it. “I'm actually missing a very big Neighbours reunion in December. They're having a massive reunion that I can't go to,” he said. For anyone following the cast's post-finale movement, that leaves one public gathering without one of the show's best-known names, even as the ending itself has already settled into the kind of ending he says the production had finally accepted.
