Former Scotland rugby international Tim Visser is due to stand trial on 12 January 2028 after appearing at the High Court in Glasgow on charges that include rape, controlling behaviour and abuse.
The 39-year-old is accused over a 14-year period between 2010 and 2024, with the indictment alleging offences in Edinburgh and elsewhere. It also includes 26 different claims across four charges, and says the prosecution may present evidence about other matters dating back to 2004.
What the court heard
At the hearing, Ian Duguid said: “It is a plea of not guilty to the indictment.”
Visser, who was capped 33 times by Scotland, played for Newcastle Falcons, Edinburgh and Harlequins during his career. The indictment refers to allegations involving both sexual and non-sexual claims, making this one of the more wide-ranging cases to reach a scheduled trial date.
With the trial now fixed for January 2028, the case will move into the next stage in the months ahead. For now, the key development is simple: Visser has entered a not guilty plea, and the court has set a date for the case to be heard.
