Sacha Baron Cohen says Ali G movie 2026 is the last guerrilla comedy he will make. Ali G: Who Iz I? will roll into theaters on Oct. 23, then land on Amazon Prime Video soon after.
He says he is done with Borat, Bruno, and Ali G, and he says the work has left him tired of hoodwinking people to expose their prejudices. He also said the new film is meant to confront extremism on both sides of the political spectrum and the danger of virtuous violence.
Oct. 23 for Ali G
The 90-minute film gives Baron Cohen another run at the character he built on The 11 O’Clock Show. Anthony “Ant” Hines, who has worked with him since that era, said, “It’s a visceral buzz you get from making a movie this way, and nothing comes close to it.”
Dan Mazer said he and Baron Cohen have never stopped talking about Ali G, and that they often slip into Ali G’s voice when they get together. Mazer added, “I also think it’s a knowledge that Sacha is the Michael Jordan of this sort of filmmaking.”
Backlash around the return
The film has already triggered a full-blown meta-outrage cycle and a campaign to boycott it. Its plot builds that friction into the premise, with Ali G’s progressive nemesis trying to cancel him on cultural appropriation grounds.
That is the part that makes this release more than a nostalgia play. Baron Cohen is trying to sell a return to the exact style of confrontation that made his earlier work combustible, while also saying he is tired of the death threats that periodically follow it.
Baron Cohen’s last pass
The complication is that this is not the first time he has said he was finished. He has said he was done before, including before the 2020 Borat sequel, and that sequel went on to earn two Oscar nominations. So the new declaration carries a built-in skepticism: the industry has heard the farewell before.
What happens next is simple for viewers and harder for the people around the film. Ali G: Who Iz I? opens in theaters on Oct. 23 and then reaches Amazon Prime Video soon after, giving the backlash a theatrical window before the streaming release broadens the audience.
