Mammoth Vs Kraken: Utah favored in regulation at 1.96 ahead of Friday night matchup

The Utah Mammoth and Seattle Kraken meet Friday 23 October at Climate Pledge Arena, with face-off scheduled for 04:00 and Utah listed as the regulation favorite at 1.96. Both teams entered the matchup with winning records, but the Mammoth carried the stronger recent profile into the night.

Utah arrived after a 5-4 home win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Delta Center, while Seattle followed a 4-3 shootout victory over the Detroit Red Wings at home. The Mammoth also had the clearer recent edge in this matchup, entering on a four-game winning streak against the Kraken and having won the last meeting at Climate Pledge Arena by a 6-2 score.

Why Utah has the betting edge

The case for the Mammoth starts with balance. Utah was averaging 3.8 goals per game on 30.1 shots on goal, while also posting a 28.9% powerplay efficiency. Defensively, the Mammoth had allowed 3.1 goals per game and had a 76.7% penalty-killing efficiency. Karel Vejmelka's numbers also supported the strong start, with a 2.89 goal against average, a.879 save percentage and one shutout.

Seattle came in with its own positives, including 3.7 goals per game and 26.5 shots on goal, but the Kraken's special teams profile was less efficient. Their power play sat at 16.7%, and their penalty kill was at 80.0%. Philipp Grubauer had been steadier in goal statistically, with a 2.72 GAA and a.905 SV%, but the overall edge still leaned Utah's way based on recent form and the head-to-head results.

Players driving the offense

Nick Schmaltz was one of five different Utah players on the scoresheet in the win over Pittsburgh, a useful sign for a team that has been spreading the offense around. Clayton Keller also continued to be a key part of the attack with 13 points, including seven goals and six assists.

For Seattle, Chandler Stephenson and Jared McCann have been among the main contributors. Stephenson had 13 points with four goals and nine assists, while McCann had eight points with three goals and five assists. That gives the Kraken enough scoring to stay in games, but the Mammoth's recent defensive results against Seattle are hard to ignore.

With the Mammoth already handling the Kraken once at Climate Pledge Arena this season and entering with a four-game winning streak in the series, Utah looked like the stronger side to back in regulation.
