Letters about the UK government £150 energy rebate are being sent across England and Wales from today under the Warm Home Discount. Some households will get the payment automatically, while others must contact a helpline before the support is applied.
Around six million households across Britain are eligible for the Warm Home Discount this winter. The scheme provides a £150 reduction on eligible households' electricity bills, and every billpayer receiving means-tested benefits now qualifies after earlier restrictions were removed.
That split matters for anyone opening one of the letters. Some recipients will only need to wait for the discount to appear on their bill, but others will need to take action and provide more information before the money is applied.
Warm Home Discount letters
The letters will keep arriving until January 2027. Anyone asked to call must do so by February 26, 2027, to secure the discount.
The change follows ministers' confirmation earlier this year that the Warm Home Discount will remain in place until 2030/31. Earlier this year, previous restrictions were also removed, widening eligibility to every billpayer receiving means-tested benefits.
England and Wales letters
Nearly 2.3 million additional households benefited from the rebate last year, including around one million families with children. That points to a wider reach this winter, but the practical rule is simple: households that receive a letter should check whether it asks them to do anything.
For those told to call, the deadline is fixed. Missing it could leave the household without the £150 reduction, while automatic cases should see the support land without any further step.
