Apple’s iPhone Duo hit a day-one iPhone duo internal display break problem, with a few newly sold units reported to have broken inner screens along the hinge. The reports matter because the damage appeared almost immediately after launch, and early buyers are already confronting a hardware issue before the first wave of ownership has settled.
Reddit posts show a pattern
The reports surfaced on Reddit today, and the affected phones appear to share the same failure point on the inner screen near the hinge. That pattern is more useful than a stray crack report because it points to a repeatable fault rather than a one-off accident.
One user in Australia said the phone lasted about six hours and fewer than 20 openings before the screen broke. The user said they felt something around the internal hinge underneath the screen while opening the phone, then heard an audible crack.
Bright lines across the display
The user also said there were no marks or damage on the inner screen’s surface or the external hinge to suggest anything had been caught or damaged. That detail complicates the usual assumption that visible abuse explains a broken folding display, because the failure showed up even when the outside looked untouched.
Instead, the reported symptom was a strange bright line or lines across the right side of the display. That points to damage in the inner panel or the folding area itself, not to an obvious scratch or dent on the outside shell.
The Apple Store swap
The Apple Store replaced one affected phone with a brand-new one on the spot. For an early buyer, that is the only concrete response on the record so far, and it suggests Apple is treating at least one case as a replacement-level problem rather than a repair job.
Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Whether the breakage is a design defect in the iPhone Duo or the result of some other factor is not explained, and that leaves early buyers with one practical question: if their own unit shows a bright line near the hinge, the clearest move is to get it in front of Apple quickly while the issue is still being handled case by case.
