Micah Peavy agreed to a two-way contract with the Thunder on Friday, giving him a quick new landing spot after his release from the Grizzlies.
The move came after the Grizzlies cut Peavy loose during training camp while he was dealing with an ankle injury. That left him available for another team, and the Thunder moved quickly after opening a roster spot earlier Friday by waiving Otega Oweh.
What the move means for the Thunder
For the Thunder, the signing restores a two-way slot and adds another forward to the mix. Two-way deals are often about depth and development, and Peavy now gets another chance to remain in the NBA system after being waived by the Grizzlies.
For Peavy, the timing matters. Rather than waiting for the season to settle in, he landed with a new team on the same day the opportunity opened. That gives him a fresh path forward after his brief stint in Memphis ended during camp.
Shams Charania of reported the agreement on Friday.
