Salt Lake City weather is drying out after a wet evening in northern Utah, but flood warnings remain in effect in parts of southern Utah. Streams, washes and other waterways there are still running high as the storm shifts away from the north.

Rain is expected across parts of northern Utah and southwest Wyoming this morning, while colder temperatures are allowing snow to fall in the higher elevations. Mountains above 9,000 feet could pick up 1 to 4 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible in some areas above that level.

Flood warnings in southern Utah

Although the heaviest rain has ended, water levels can stay elevated after the storm moves on. That leaves people in parts of southern Utah with continued flooding concerns even as conditions improve farther north.

Most of the widespread rain and snow will end late Friday morning. A few showers could linger across northern Utah into Friday afternoon, especially near the Utah-Idaho border, while the weekend stays cooler and somewhat unsettled as another part of the storm system slowly moves across the Desert Southwest.

Weekend showers across Utah

Scattered showers are expected mainly across southeastern Utah on Saturday. By Sunday, the chance for showers could spread north into Utah’s higher terrain, keeping the weekend unsettled even after the main round of rain and snow ends.

Temperatures should begin to recover by Monday, with highs returning closer to what is normal for late October. For people still under flood warnings in southern Utah, the immediate concern is not more heavy rain in the north but runoff that can keep waterways high after the strongest storm impacts have passed.
