Jamie Miller And Antonio Cipriano lift Babydoll to UK chart No. 1

Jamie Miller and Antonio Cipriano are tied to a chart win that puts Miller at number one on the UK singles chart with Babydoll. The song made him the first Welsh artist to reach the top in 15 years, and he did it after Babydoll had already flirted with the summit last week.

“I don't even know what to say other than thank you so much for getting me Number 1, this is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me in my life, I love you guys,” Miller said after the result. The line fits the scale of the moment: the singer from Pontprennau in Cardiff now has his first UK number one single, and Babydoll also gave him his first appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Pontprennau to number one

Released on 7 August, Babydoll built momentum after Jennifer Love Hewitt posted videos featuring the track, which pushed it into a TikTok dance trend. That viral lift carried it past Tate McRae and Housewife on Friday, even though McRae had narrowly beaten it to the top spot last week.

Miller’s route to the top has been a long one. He came third on the sixth season of The Voice UK as a 19-year-old nearly a decade ago, and this is the first time that work has translated into a UK chart leader.

41 years since a solo male Welsh number one

The new chart result also resets a Welsh marker that has been dormant for years. Miller is the first Welsh artist since 2011 to earn a UK number one single, and the first solo male Welsh artist in 41 years to do it, after Shakin' Stevens topped the chart in 1985 with Merry Christmas Everyone.

That leaves a smaller but sharper question around Babydoll itself: whether the single can hold the peak after breaking through on Friday. For now, the result is already enough to put Miller in a narrow club and give Wales another chart leader it has not had in a long time.

Antonio Cipriano on Miller

Antonio Cipriano also enters the story because he recorded a separate version of Babydoll with Miller after the idea was joked about on social media. Cipriano told Wales that Miller was “one of the best vocalists I've ever heard” and that he had been a fan of his voice “for years.”

The top five that week also included Olivia Rodrigo’s remixed version of Expectations with Chappell Roan and Ashe’s Stop The Wedding at number four, but Miller’s climb mattered more for what it ended: a 15-year wait for a Welsh artist at number one, and a much longer wait for a Welsh solo male at the summit.
