Jaylen Brown says there is “no beef” with Jayson Tatum, but his latest remarks still add another layer to a public back-and-forth that now follows Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. The tension may be light-hearted on the surface, yet the quotes ensure the conversation around Brown and Tatum stays alive ahead of the next matchups.
On Friday night, Tatum said he wanted to talk to Brown and hash things out. Brown then answered on Saturday night by saying there was no issue between them, while also taking a playful swipe at Tatum’s “PR team.” It was a response that kept the tone measured, but did not remove the intrigue.
Brown keeps the tone calm, but pointed
Brown said he had not seen the full comments, but believed Tatum was right to say there was no beef. He then added that Tatum comes from a wonderful family, is a hell of a basketball player, and that there was “no beef” between them. Still, Brown could not resist joking that Tatum has a “great PR team” and that there might be “a little lamb chops and some gravy” in the background.
That is the important part of this story. Brown is not escalating anything, and he made clear that both players have bigger things in front of them. “We both got so much stuff in front of us,” he said, before stressing that each man has to focus on his own team.
Why the timing matters for the Philadelphia 76ers
This is not just a social-media side note. The teams have four regular-season matchups scheduled, and the first comes on Nov. 10 in Philadelphia, when the Celtics will be in town. Brown will then return to TD Garden on Jan. 21, which gives this storyline a proper regular-season backdrop.
That matters because Brown is now with the Sixers, and any public comments about Tatum and the Celtics will naturally be framed through those meetings. Tatum had already said he reached out the day Brown got traded, calling and texting him, and he added that he has “two kids” and understands people process things differently.
Brown’s reply suggests the relationship is not being pushed into outright conflict. At the same time, it keeps the temperature up just enough to make each meeting between the Sixers and the Celtics feel more personal than usual. For now, both players are saying the right things. The real answer will come when the games begin.
