Is Saquon Barkley playing today? The Philadelphia Eagles running back is listed as questionable for Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys after logging a full practice session on Saturday.
Barkley had been limited in the previous two practices before the latest update, which gives Philadelphia some optimism heading into an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff. He has missed the past two games after getting injured in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Why Barkley’s status matters
The Eagles have been dealing with multiple roster losses, and Barkley’s availability matters even more because the running game has struggled without him. Philadelphia rushed for just 22 yards in one of the games he missed and 35 in the other, a reminder of how much his presence changes the offense.
Before the injury, Barkley had produced 165 yards on the ground with a 5.5 yards-per-carry average. That kind of production is difficult to replace, especially in a Week 4 loss that set up this latest stretch of uncertainty.
If Barkley is active, the Eagles can lean on a more balanced attack against a Dallas Cowboys team coming in at 2-4. If he is not, Philadelphia will again have to piece together the backfield while adjusting around the rest of its injuries.
Dallas Goedert was available after missing the first two practices of the week, which is another positive sign for Philadelphia. Still, Barkley remains the main question as Monday Night Football approaches.
