Grimsby Town finally got their first away victory of the season in emphatic fashion, beating Gillingham 4-1 at Priestfield after scoring in the seventh minute and again three times after the break. The Mariners took control of the game with four different scoring contributions and returned home with three points that could help shift their away form.
Harvey Rodgers opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a 25-yard stunner, giving Grimsby an early lead. Gillingham responded before halftime when Ronan Hale equalised, but the match changed after the restart.
In the 54th minute, Iwan Morgan restored Grimsby's advantage from the penalty spot after Armani Little fouled Kieran Green. Soon after, Geza Turi added another from close range, and Sonny Finch made it 4-1 in the 70th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Artell's side took control after the break
After the match, Grimsby manager David Artell said his side dominated the game in the second half, and the scoreline backed that up. Once Morgan scored from the spot, Grimsby kept pressing and finished the contest with a convincing margin.
The result gives Grimsby a notable milestone as well as the points themselves. It was their first away win of the season, and doing it with four separate goalscorers will give the squad a boost heading into the next round of fixtures.
