The Los Angeles Clippers went into their third game of the season short-handed on Sunday, with Bradley Beal, Brandon Ingram, Max Strus, Jordan Miller, and Yanic Konan Niederhauser all listed as out ahead of the 7 pm EST tip-off against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
It was another difficult injury report for a team that has already been dealing with multiple absences to start the season. The timing matters, too, because the Clippers were facing an undefeated Thunder team that was otherwise fully healthy aside from two long-term injuries.
What the Clippers were missing
The absences covered several different parts of the roster. Beal was listed out with no timetable to return as his knee is being managed for pain. Ingram was also unavailable after having heel surgery in May, while Strus is still working back from a plantar fascia tear suffered in the preseason.
Jordan Miller underwent rotator cuff surgery in the offseason, and Niederhauser is also on the injury list after having Lisfranc surgery last season. That left the Clippers without five players who could have influenced the rotation in different ways.
What it means against Oklahoma City
With Beal and Ingram both unavailable, the Clippers have had to lean on emergency options and reshape the lineup on the fly. The situation is especially important against a Thunder team that has opened the season without a loss and has been able to keep its core in place.
The bigger picture is simple: the Clippers are still in the early stages of managing a crowded injury situation, and Sunday’s matchup in Oklahoma City showed how quickly that can affect depth, roles, and game planning. For now, the team is waiting on the next few weeks and, in Beal’s case, potentially a couple more weeks before any clearer return picture emerges.
