Cartaginés kept its dream of winning the regional title alive by drawing 2-2 with Olimpia in Tegucigalpa and advancing 3-2 on aggregate in Olimpia Vs Cartaginés.
The first leg in Costa Rica had already given Cartaginés a slim advantage after a 1-0 win, and the second leg turned into a tense semifinal battle. Olimpia went ahead after a 12th-minute own goal by Luis Olivas, then doubled the lead through Jorge Benguché in the 52nd minute.
Cartaginés responded with a goal from Joaquín Alonso Hernández in the 36th minute, keeping the tie within reach before Jean Carlo Castro struck in the 90+4 minute to secure the draw and the aggregate victory.
What the result means
The 3-2 aggregate win sends Cartaginés into the final of the Copa Centroamericana and gives Amarini Villatoro another major coaching milestone. In the 2025 semifinal, he had already guided Xelajú MC past Real España, and this latest result adds to that record of reaching decisive stages in the competition.
For Cartaginés, the outcome was straightforward: survive a difficult road leg, stay composed after falling behind, and finish the tie when the opportunity arrived late. The result keeps alive the club's hope of lifting the regional trophy.
