Ipswich chairman Richard Coleman says the Tru7 Group Witches are consulting on changes to the Foxhall track ahead of a huge 2027 season, with the work aimed at improving both racing and safety before the venue stages the biggest event in Ipswich's history.
The planned changes are being discussed within the limits of the existing stock car track that sits around the speedway oval, but Coleman said the club wants to make “fairly significant changes” if possible. Those plans include increasing the camber by dropping the apexes and widening the bends, with the aim of making the circuit more usable for riders.
Why Foxhall changes matter
Coleman said the current shape of the track restricts racing because the camber cannot really be used properly in its present form. He also pointed to the condition of the surface, describing the material as tired, patchy and in need of replacement in several areas.
The upgrades are not being considered in isolation. Foxhall is scheduled to host the FIM SGP2 of Great Britain – Ipswich on Friday, August 13, 2027, before the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Ipswich arrives on Saturday, August 14, 2027. That makes next year’s preparations especially important for Ipswich, which is preparing for major Speedway GP action alongside a big Rowe Motor Oil Premiership season.
Safety and racing conditions
Coleman said the club is also focused on ensuring everything is compliant from a safety point of view, with the GP coming to Ipswich adding extra urgency to the project. The consultation is still ongoing, but he said the aim is to handle as much of the work as possible in one go.
For Ipswich, the hope is straightforward: a better track, a safer track and a surface ready for one of the club's biggest years. Coleman said he is confident Foxhall will have a good racetrack for 2027.
