The Kings appear to be headed into Sabres vs Kings with a clean bill of health for one of their top young defensemen. Brandt Clarke practiced yesterday after leaving Thursday’s 6-5 overtime win over Ottawa with an upper-body injury, and he is expected to be available when Los Angeles hosts Buffalo in an afternoon matinee.
That matters because the Kings are in the middle of a seven-game homestand and were projected to keep the lineup unchanged unless a health issue forced a move. Clarke’s availability helps keep that plan intact on the second game of the homestand, especially after a short turnaround from Thursday’s win.
What changed for Los Angeles
After beating Ottawa in overtime, the Kings held a full-team practice yesterday and did not have a morning skate before today’s game. The biggest update from that session was Clarke, who was back on the ice after the injury scare. Based on that practice, the expectation is that he will play.
Beyond Clarke, the Kings have been steady through this stretch. They are coming off a 2-0-1 road trip and now get Buffalo at home, with the Sabres finishing a four-game road trip in Los Angeles. Los Angeles has leaned on a balanced approach during the homestand, and Peter Laviolette said the club needs secondary scoring. He also pointed to contributions from Trevor Moore and Erik Haula, along with production from the defensemen, after the Ottawa game.
Buffalo brings its own top-end threats
The Sabres arrive with Tage Thompson and Quinn leading the way in goals and points this season. Buffalo’s most recent work included an update from Rachel Lenzi, who posted the Sabres’ warmup lines and defensive pairs against Anaheim on October 30, 2026. That added some context to a team still sorting through matchups and line combinations on the road.
For the Kings, though, the main storyline is simpler: keep the same structure, keep Clarke in the lineup, and try to build on a win that featured contributions throughout the order. If the projected lineup holds, the only real question entering Sabres vs Kings was Clarke’s status — and it now looks like Los Angeles should have him available.
