Jessica Lange Says Her Career May End After Season 13

Jessica Lange said her acting career may be coming to an end after a new Rolling Stone interview turned the question of her next projects into a question about whether there will be any at all. The actor said she feels like she is coming to an end, even after returning for American Horror Story Season 13.

"I actually feel like I'm coming to an end," Lange said, adding that the last film might be Long Day's Journey Into Night, with her playing Mary Tyrone. She also said there are a couple projects that have been in the works forever that may or may not happen, a blunt way of describing how long-development titles can sit without ever becoming shootable work.

Season 13 and four roles

Before American Horror Story Season 13, Lange had stepped away from the franchise for a few years. She came back and reprised four of her former roles, and she said, "Why I said yes to this season was the idea of revisiting, reprising these four roles."

That return matters because it shows the line between a pause and an ending can be thin when an actor has already spent decades in the business. Lange said, "I've been incredibly lucky. I love acting, and I've had decades of being able to do it, which has been a joy for me."

Long Day's Journey Into Night

Her own framing is unusually specific: she did not just talk about slowing down, she pointed to one film and one role as a possible finish line. "Maybe it's not a bad way to end, that last film being 'Long Day's Journey Into Night' and playing Mary Tyrone," she said, linking the career question to a finished body of work rather than to a public retirement announcement.

The practical read is straightforward. If those long-worked projects never move, her most recent major screen work could stay exactly where she left it: with the return to American Horror Story Season 13 and the memory of a film she now describes as a possible final chapter. For viewers and producers, that leaves one real question hanging over her next move, and it is whether the projects she mentioned ever clear the distance between development and production.

Long Day and the end

Lange said she would want to be remembered "For some good parts. For some good films. For being an honest actor," then added, "But it all was a great adventure." That is not the language of someone plotting a long runway back into the market. It sounds like an actor measuring a career by the work itself, and deciding the last stretch may already be behind her.
