Billy Mead is putting his head on the line for Movember at The World Bar in Queenstown on Sunday, November 1. The venue manager will have his head shaved for the cause, with the day built around funds and awareness for men’s health and mental health.

The event starts with a barber station from 1pm, when mo’s can be shaved off before people grow them through Movember. Live music from Nic Shea and Danny Atkinson will follow, and DJ Ribera is set to play from 9pm.

Auctions will run throughout Sunday, with prizes donated by 13 local businesses. The format mixes fundraising with entertainment, and the event leans into the Movember idea of growing and shaving moustaches while keeping the focus on men’s health.

The promo for Sunday’s Movember Mo’s & Mates event says: “Men’s health and mental health is something that deserves more conversation, more support and more action.” It also says: “This event is about bring our community together to help raise funds and awareness for an important cause.”

Mead may even grow a mohawk instead, turning a straightforward shave into the sort of visible gesture that keeps attention on the cause. Toby Freeman is also asking punters to nominate what sort of mo he should grow throughout the month, adding a public challenge to the day’s fundraising drive.

The serious message sits inside a lighter, social format: music, a barber station, tattoos and auctions. That combination is what makes the event more than a themed night out, because it asks Queenstown punters to donate while they stay for the entertainment and the cause.

The final appeal from the promo is blunt: “Let’s help change the face of men’s health together.” For anyone planning to take part, the day begins at 1pm and builds toward the evening music and the 9pm set, with the auctions running all day around it.
