The Philadelphia Eagles are in a difficult spot, and the math around it is getting tighter by the day. At 2-5 and in the middle of a five-game losing streak, they are not just searching for answers at quarterback — they are searching for any workable path out of the hole. That is why Gardner Minshew II has entered the conversation, especially with the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaching.
The need became clearer after Jalen Hurts was expected to miss the rest of the season because blood clots were discovered in his lungs. Since then, the Eagles have been trying to manage the position with Tanner McKee, but the result has only sharpened the urgency. If the goal is to stabilize the offense quickly, a familiar name suddenly makes a lot of sense.
Why Gardner Minshew II fits the Eagles' situation
Minshew is not being discussed as a blockbuster solution. He is being considered because he is known to the organization and because he is available at a cost that should be more manageable than Jacoby Brissett. In a season already tilted by injury and losses, familiarity carries real value. The Eagles do not have the luxury of treating the quarterback search as a long-term evaluation exercise right now.
There is also the simple matter of timing. The Eagles face the New York Giants on Nov. 8, just two days before the deadline, and that schedule leaves little room for patience. Every game in this stretch matters, especially in the division, and the team cannot afford to keep waiting for a fix that may not be coming from inside the building.
That does not mean Minshew would solve everything. A trade would still be a stopgap, not a rescue plan. But in a season where the Eagles have already lost too much ground, a cheaper and familiar quarterback option is the kind of move that can at least buy structure. At this point, that may be the most realistic goal.
The broader issue is that the Eagles are no longer operating like a team trying to optimize. They are operating like a team trying to survive. That is a very different calculation, and it explains why Gardner Minshew II has become a name to watch before Nov. 10.
