The Kansas City Chiefs made a practice-squad roster move after the Broncos matchup, releasing cornerback Kader Kohou from the practice squad. It is a small transaction on paper, but it ends Kohou’s brief second stint with Kansas City after he joined the team earlier this offseason.
Kohou, 27, had spent his NFL career with the Dolphins before moving to Kansas City. He originally signed with Miami as an unrestricted free agent out of Texas A&M-Commerce in 2022 and agreed to a three-year rookie contract with the club.
Kohou's recent NFL path
Last offseason, the Dolphins re-signed Kohou as a restricted free agent, keeping him in Miami after he had already established himself there. This offseason, he signed with the Chiefs before being let go after camp, then re-signed with Kansas City’s practice squad shortly after cutdowns.
The release now makes clear that Kansas City is moving on from the veteran defensive back, at least for the time being. For Kohou, the move leaves open the possibility of another opportunity elsewhere, but his immediate run with the Chiefs has come to an end.
In 2024, Kohou appeared in 15 games and recorded 45 tackles, two interceptions and eight pass defenses. That production helped show why he remained an experienced option for a secondary looking for depth, even if the Chiefs ultimately decided to make a change on the practice squad.
