Broadview Heights Fire Department Keeps West Royalton Road Closed Tuesday — North Royalton Fire

West Royalton Road stayed closed Tuesday morning after a North Royalton fire in Broadview Heights. The closure ran between Scottsdale Drive and Oakwood Drive, leaving one stretch of the road blocked after crews responded Monday evening.

Multiple crews went to a home in the 2100 block of West Royalton Rd. around 8 p.m. That response set up the closure that remained in place the next morning on a road section used by drivers crossing SR 82.

Drivers were told to avoid the area by taking State Road (SR 94) to Royalwood Road to Broadview Road (SR 176), or State Road (SR 94) to Akins Road to Broadview Road (SR 176). Those posted routes kept traffic moving around the closed section while crews dealt with the fire scene.

The fire and closure are tied together: the roadway did not reopen by Tuesday morning even though the incident began Monday evening. For anyone headed through Broadview Heights, the practical step was to use the detour instead of trying to reach the closed stretch of West Royalton Road.

West Royalton Road and SR 82

The closed segment sat between Scottsdale Drive and Oakwood Drive, a short but important part of West Royalton Road. Because the restriction remained in place Tuesday morning, the blocked area affected travel plans before the day’s regular traffic fully built up.

That left drivers with two route choices already laid out by crews: SR 94 to Royalwood Road to Broadview Road, or SR 94 to Akins Road to Broadview Road. Both routes bypassed the same closed area and gave motorists an alternate way around the fire scene.

As of Tuesday, the situation still centered on the closed road and the home fire that triggered it. The immediate question for nearby drivers was simple: whether they could pass through West Royalton Road or needed to stay on the posted detour.

They needed the detour.
