Fresno election results put Naindeep Singh ahead of Rob Fuentes by 254 votes in the Fresno City Council District 1 primary. Singh received 4,535 votes, while Fuentes received 4,281 as voters chose the candidates who want to replace Annalisa Perea.
District 1 vote count
The primary numbers gave Singh the edge, but not enough to end the race. The gap was 254 votes, a margin that kept the contest close heading into the final decision on Nov. 3.
Singh is 48 and runs the Jakara Movement. He also serves as a Central Unified trustee, and his decades of community work, especially with young people, shape his view of District 1.
Rob Fuentes and Naindeep Singh
Fuentes is 41, a former assistant U.S. attorney, an instructor at San Joaquin College of Law and a trustee for the State Center Community College District. His campaign website lists affordability, public safety, homelessness and neighborhood development as priorities, including housing and utility costs, roads, sidewalks, street lighting and neighborhood parks.
Singh’s campaign website lists affordable housing, lower city utility costs, support for local businesses and better neighborhood infrastructure. He has also emphasized rebuilding trust between residents and city leadership, and the Fresno County Democratic Party endorsed him.
Fresno State on Nov. 3
Voters in District 1 will decide the race, which includes parts of the Tower District, the Fresno High area and neighborhoods west of Highway 99. Fresno State will operate a voting center in the Resnick Student Union from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and again on Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Singh’s lead in the primary gives him the narrow advantage, but the final outcome still rests with voters in District 1. The race will determine who takes the seat and who speaks for those neighborhoods on the Fresno City Council.
