Ontario California election results showed Daisy Macias ahead of Paul Leon on Tuesday, Nov. 3. In early returns, Macias led the Ontario mayoral race with 7,216 votes, or 38.62%, while Leon had 6,058 votes, or 32.43%.
The four-candidate race also put Kevin Kizzee at 16.74% and Nicolo Lalama at 12.21%. More ballots still had to be counted before final outcomes could be set.
Paul Leon's long record
Leon entered the count with a long local history behind him. He joined the council in 1998 and became mayor in 2005, making the early deficit to Macias the clearest opening result in the race.
The mayoral tally unfolded while an FBI investigation involving Ontario officials remained open. Agents searched properties associated with Alan Wapner, Curt Hagman, Frank Lizarraga and James Su on July 28, and they served subpoenas at Ontario City Hall and Ontario International Airport that same day.
Ontario City Council races
Early returns also showed Ruben Valencia leading Stephanie Martinez in District 2, 2,190 votes to 1,615, or 57.56% to 42.44%. In District 3, Alan Wapner held a narrow lead over Michael Rios, 1,990 votes to 1,855, or 31.26% to 29.14%.
Larry Trinidad was third in District 3 with 22.78% of the vote, and D’Andre Lampkin was fourth with 16.81%. Wapner had given up his committee assignments, including the presidency of the Ontario International Airport Authority board, after the investigation moved into public view.
Vote count in Ontario
Those margins leave the mayor’s race open until the remaining ballots are tallied and certified. For voters in Ontario, the immediate question is whether Macias can keep her lead while the count continues and whether the City Council races tighten further as more returns come in.
