Lorraine Kelly answered why isn’t This Morning live today by saying a power outage at the studio pulled her show off ITV’s Wednesday 4 November slot. She said she was on her way to work when the disruption hit, and the morning schedule shifted around it.
Kelly said technicians were due to fix the issue by around 11am, while This Morning would still air, just a little later. That leaves viewers with a simple change for this morning: Lorraine is off the schedule for now, but the live daytime block is being adjusted rather than abandoned.
Lorraine Kelly on Wednesday 4 November
"Hello there" Kelly began in an early morning Instagram video, before spelling out the problem: "I'm on my way to work, but there's been a little bit of a hoo-ha. There's a power outage at the studio so my show won’t be on today." She added that she expected the outage to be repaired by around 11am.
The interruption matters because Lorraine is normally part of ITV and ITV X’s weekday 9.30 slot, so a studio failure does not just remove one programme — it forces a live schedule rewrite. Viewers of Lorraine were told the gap would be temporary, with Kelly saying, "These things happen. Can’t be helped. See you tomorrow."
This Morning and Good Morning Britain
Kelly also drew a line through the rest of the morning run of programmes. "So This Morning will still be on as well, just maybe a little bit later," she said, while also noting that Good Morning Britain would still air. That is the practical fix viewers needed: the chain stays intact, but one live handover has been pushed back.
There was one casualty that could not be recovered in the moment. Kelly said she had been looking forward to talking to Sharleen Spiteri from Texas, but the interview would be rescheduled. For a weekday live programme, that is the cleanest sign of how quickly a studio fault can ripple through planned segments without changing the overall morning lineup.
30 minutes, 30 weeks
Last year, Lorraine’s run was already pared back when the show was cut from an hour to 30 minutes because of budget cuts, and it was reduced to airing 30 weeks out of the year. Against that background, losing a live slot to a power failure is more than a one-off hiccup; it disrupts a show that has already been trimmed to a tighter schedule.
Kelly has been a fixture of ITV’s morning schedule since Lorraine debuted in 2010, and she ended the morning with the clearest operational answer available: technicians were expected to restore the studio by around 11am, and the programme was due back tomorrow at 9.30am. For viewers, the takeaway is straightforward — the outage delayed the day’s live output, but the schedule was set to resume as normal the next morning.
