Oliver Bearman is set to welcome a new team-mate at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, after Haas confirmed that Rafael Camara will replace Esteban Ocon this weekend. The move means Bearman will line up alongside the current Formula 2 championship leader, with Haas continuing to reshuffle its driver line-up before the season reaches its final three races.
The decision is the latest twist in a difficult run for Ocon, who was already told last month that he would leave Haas at the end of this season after two years with the American-owned squad. Haas then dropped him midway through the last round in Mexico, with Ryo Hirakawa stepping in from Saturday onwards at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Haas make another change for Sao Paulo
Speaking on the latest switch, Ayao Komatsu said the team had not taken the decision lightly. He said that, as in Mexico City, Haas felt the change was firmly in the best interest of the team moving forward.
Komatsu also made clear that the conversations between the team and Ocon would remain private, adding that the internal nature of those discussions would be respected. That leaves little public detail on the reasons behind the call, but it does underline how firmly Haas have chosen to manage the situation on their own terms.
Why Bearman’s weekend matters
For Bearman, the immediate focus will be on working with another new team-mate as Haas continue to assess their options. Camara was already due to take Ocon’s seat from the start of 2027, but this call-up brings that partnership forward far earlier than expected.
It also gives Camara a striking first chance in Formula 1 at a time when the team is still trying to settle its shape for the run-in. Haas have not yet confirmed who will drive for them in the final three races, which means Sao Paulo may prove to be only the latest step in a line-up that remains unresolved.
Camara’s promotion adds another layer to a season already marked by change, while Bearman now has the task of adapting quickly once again. For Haas, the question is whether this latest switch helps bring clarity - or simply creates more uncertainty before the campaign ends.
