Jacoby Brissett trade gives Ravens Starting Qb solution as playoff pressure builds

The Ravens are turning to Jacoby Brissett as their Ravens Starting Qb, with Baltimore finalising a trade for the veteran after losing Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley to injury this week. It is a move designed to steady a season that has suddenly become more fragile, even if the timing leaves little room for the new quarterback to settle in slowly.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and 's Adam Schefter, the deal is expected to be completed over the weekend. Brissett is then expected to start for Baltimore in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers, giving the Ravens an experienced option after a run of quarterback uncertainty.

Why Baltimore moved quickly

There is a practical reason this deal has moved so fast. Baltimore had already lost three straight entering Thursday night, and the injury problems at quarterback made the need for a replacement impossible to ignore. Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie, will start for Baltimore against the Jaguars on Thursday, but Brissett is the long-term answer from the options now available.

Brissett also brings familiarity. He worked with Ravens QB coach Israel Woolfolk in Cleveland in 2022 and again last season in Arizona, which should help the transition. That matters in a week where the Ravens do not need more confusion; they need a quarterback who can arrive and handle the job with minimal delay.

Arizona's reasons were just as clear

Brissett had already been benched by Arizona after the Cardinals named Gardner Minshew the starter and Carson Beck the backup. He was then demoted to third-string on Monday after being benched during Sunday's comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals had also reworked his deal this offseason, and trading him now allows them to shed salary while moving on from a quarterback they no longer viewed as part of the immediate plan.

For Baltimore, the attraction is less about glamour and more about survival. The Ravens need stability at the most important position on the field, and Brissett gives them a veteran presence who has played for seven different teams in seven years. In a season where margins matter, that kind of experience can be valuable.

What comes next for the Ravens

The immediate picture is simple. Baltimore will use Fagnano on Thursday, then hope Brissett is ready to take over in Week 10 against the Chargers. With the team sitting 4-4 and 10th in the AFC, the next few days will go a long way toward deciding whether this trade becomes a stabilising move or merely a short-term fix.

What is clear is that the Ravens have acted decisively. In a season shaped by injuries, that may be the only sensible response.
