Epic added a Fortnite token to the Treasure Hunters event on November 1, and the Pirate Token is already changing how players approach every chest. The item can grant Pirate Shop Access to the team that finds it, so the hunt now has a direct shop payoff attached to it.
Each Pirate Token can be activated twice, once in 2026 and once in 2027, and each activation gives players 14 days to claim more or less anything sold in the shop. That window makes the token feel less like a collectible and more like a timed access pass, which is why players are already grinding harder than they would for a normal drop.
Fortnite GG and the 80% jump
Fortnite GG reported an 80% player jump the day the event went live, a fast spike that fits the size of the reward on offer. The Treasure Hunters event also folds in One Piece skins, new points of interest, and a smaller island map, but the Pirate Token is the item turning routine chest-opening into a race.
Epic says the token is found randomly in chests, and it also says the drop works like any of the chests in Battle Royale, with every player having an equal opportunity to find Pirate Shop Access. That leaves players with the same basic action and a much bigger incentive, because the token cannot be gifted or transferred and cannot be used for real money offers or battle pass levels.
eBay listings and scam warnings
IGN reported that some accounts with tokens were listed for sale on eBay for $9-$10k before those listings were taken down. Epic then posted that buying an account or using fake tools is a scam, and that warning landed after the resale market had already tried to attach a cash value to the drop.
Forbes debunked a player theory that lower-level accounts had a better likelihood of finding tokens, which pushed the hunt back toward blind chest grinding rather than a shortcut. Hypex added fuel to the speculation by claiming Fortnite is going to introduce a power hour that would increase the token’s spawn rate, but Epic has not disclosed the odds of finding a Pirate Token.
What players can actually do
There is no confirmed compass that can lead players to a token, and the available strategy appears to be simple: squad up and open every chest you can. That leaves the real edge with persistence, not a trick, while the rumor market keeps doing what rare in-game items always do—encouraging bad purchases, fake tools, and wishful thinking.
For players, the practical move is also the least glamorous one. Ignore resale offers, ignore anything promising a shortcut, and treat every chest the same way until the drop lands, because the only documented path to Pirate Shop Access is finding A Pirate Token inside Fortnite itself.
