Zac Affleck says Jen Affleck filed Nov. 3 after a year of talks

Zac Affleck said Jen Affleck filed for divorce on Nov. 3 after a year of conversations about ending the marriage. He said he was surprised when the paperwork arrived, then laid out what changed inside the relationship and what he wants to protect now.

In a Nov. 5 TikTok, he said he learned about the filing from a TMZ reporter. He also said Jen Affleck first raised divorce about a year ago after Dancing With the Stars, telling him she was unhappy and wanted out of the marriage.

Nov. 3 filing

The filing lands after a seven-year marriage that began in Newport Beach, Calif., in 2019. Zac Affleck said the couple has four children: Nora, 5, Luca, 3, Penelope, 16 months, and a fourth child on the way, which makes the split immediately more than a personal breakup.

That timeline matters because he said the conversation had already been underway when Jen Affleck became pregnant with their fourth child. In practical terms, the family is now facing divorce and a newborn at the same time, a combination that turns coparenting from a future issue into a near-term one.

What Zac Affleck said

Zac Affleck said he begged Jen Affleck to stay when she first raised divorce and told her to work on things and become whoever she needed him to be. He added, "I'll be the first to say I've made plenty of mistakes in our marriage, and it just really was time for for us to go our own ways."

He also said, "I don't want anyone speaking bad about Jen," and described the split as the result of a slow drift rather than one sudden event. "Marriage is hard. Having your marriage in the public is hard. Raising kids is hard. And I think slowly over time we lost that spark," he said, calling out reality TV, public scrutiny, and the strain of raising children as part of the pressure.

Coparenting and the next step

Zac Affleck said his priority is a healthy coparenting relationship and giving the children a normal childhood. He said, "I feel like probably the thing that's eating me alive the most is I feel like I failed my kids, and I'm worried that I'm going to cause them damage. And I just hope that we can still give them a normal childhood, but as far as that goes, Jen and I are definitely on the same page of wanting to give them the best the best life we can."

That leaves the story at the point families usually feel first: not at the filing, but at the schedule, the household routine, and the question of how four children move through a divorce while both parents try to keep the same line in front of them. Zac Affleck said he wants the children protected; the next test is whether that agreement holds once the paperwork stops being the headline.
