Adam said he felt frightened after an incident outside St Peter's High School in Gloucester, where armed police were called at 08:50 GMT and one boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Parents were told they could collect their children, but pupils still could not leave alone.
Chalford Road in Tuffley
Police were called to Chalford Road in Tuffley after an altercation outside the school. During the incident, one male was seen with a long-bladed item, and armed officers then searched for a group that fled the area.
Adam said after texting his daughter that he knew she was OK: "I don't think this should happen at school. Thank God she is safe". He added outside the school gates: "I'm slightly calmer now the police have told us they're safe but I want to take them home."
Willow Primary Academy
The police response affected two schools. Willow Primary Academy remained in full lockdown, while pupils at St Peter's High School were told they still could not leave alone. An officer told parents outside the school that the police presence would remain for the rest of the school day and was there to provide reassurance and answer questions.
Police said there was no ongoing threat at the school even as armed officers stayed in place and searched for the group involved. Lorraine Campbell, the independent councillor for the Tuffley area, described the incident as "very concerning" and said "there is a great deal of uncertainty". She also said, "There is always a big shock when we hear of something happening very literally on our doorsteps, it's of great concern. Hopefully it gets sorted out as soon as possible," and added, "Anything like this is extremely troubling and disturbing - we are all concerned but we do all stand together on these things."
St Peter's High School
Adam said, "I haven't heard from them because they aren't allowed phones in school," as he waited outside the gates. The immediate practical position for parents was simple: collection was allowed, but pupils were still being held inside until school staff and police were ready for a controlled end to the day. The unanswered issue is what led to the altercation outside St Peter's High School.
