Met Office Cold Snap Forecast: UK Faces -3C From November 11

The Met Office cold snap forecast says colder conditions could spread across much of the UK from November 11, with temperatures in some northern Scottish areas falling to -3C. The first notable cold spell of the season is expected to move south from Scotland into England and Wales over several days.

Weather models point to the sharpest drop beginning on November 11, when some northern Scottish regions could reach -3C by early evening. The same outlook suggests temperatures may stay below freezing in large parts of the country on November 12, with lows of -1C in southern Scotland and Wales and -2C in the North Pennines.

November 12 temperatures

London may struggle to climb above 4C on November 12, while East Anglia is forecast to be the warmest region at about 6C. The GFS model also suggests 24 counties could see daytime temperatures drop below freezing across the three days, a sign that the cold will not stay confined to the far north once it arrives.

Met Office November 9 to 18

The Met Office forecast covering November 9 to November 18 says the southern half of the UK has a greater chance of milder and wetter conditions for a time, while the north is more likely to remain drier. It also says colder conditions may spread from the north toward much of, if not all of, the UK toward the end of next week, bringing brief wintry showers to the northern UK.

That split leaves the country on two tracks: a milder, wetter spell in the south for a time, and a colder outbreak that could still reach much of the UK later in the period. People in Scotland and Wales, along with London, the Midlands and South Wales, will be watching the overnight lows most closely as the forecast evolves.
