Dyllón Burnside says his Shrinking season 4 role already feels personal. After Deadline reported his casting, he posted on Instagram Thursday afternoon: "This one feels good for SO many reasons! I can’t wait for you all to meet this character."
Burnside is joining the season in a recurring role, along with Jillian Bell and Addie Weyrich. Deadline did not say who any of the three will play, and Apple TV still has not set a premiere date.
Bill Lawrence and the cast picture
Bill Lawrence posted in April that there is a Season 4 with the "EXACT same cast (that’s why we are doing it, we love each other)," and that line now sits beside a much messier reality. Judith Light, Christian Slater and Karen Gillan are new for Season 4, while Deadline also reported in October that Scott Foley will recur as a therapy patient.
That overlap is the story here: the show’s public framing has emphasized continuity, but the cast list keeps widening around the edges. For viewers tracking the ensemble, the practical effect is simple — Season 4 is not just carrying over the core group from Shrinking, it is adding new recurring pieces before a release date has been set.
Michael Urie’s two-year jump
Michael Urie said in June that Brian has a toddler now and added, "I think it’s really interesting playing a parent now and in season four we’ve jumped two years." That detail gives the casting news a clear timeline: the series is moving forward far enough to accommodate new relationships, new dynamics and new recurring parts without having locked a premiere on the calendar.
Apple TV renewed Shrinking just before Season 3 premiered on Jan. 28, and Season 3 ran weekly through April 8. With Season 4 now absorbing Burnside, Bell and Weyrich, the immediate question is not whether the show has momentum — it does — but which characters they will be playing when the new season finally lands.
