Baxters has issued a Tesco Waitrose soup recall notice for Chef Selections Cullen Skink, after a manufacturing fault raised the risk that 400g cans could swell and burst. Shoppers in England, Wales and Scotland were told not to eat the soup and to dispose of the unopened can carefully.

The recalled product is a smoked haddock chowder sold under the Chef Selections Cullen Skink name. Baxters said the affected cans carry batch code L07XC and an April 2029 best before date.
The company is based in the north east of Scotland and was founded in Fochabers in Moray in 1868. Audrey Baxter, a fourth-generation family member, is now running the privately-owned business.
Food Standards Agency warning
The Food Standards Agency said spoiled soup may have an unpleasant odour and flavour. It also said the manufacturing fault may cause the cans to swell and potentially rupture, which is why the advice is to leave the can unopened.
Customers were told to put the full can in a bag and place it in an external bin. People who want a replacement have been told to contact Baxters customer care team at [email protected].

The practical point for buyers is simple: do not test the soup by opening it, because the recall covers sealed cans that may already be compromised. The warning applies only to the 400g cans with batch code L07XC and the April 2029 best before date.
